With all the '60s (and later) horror and sci-fi film in PD, it would be great to see more of that sort of thing here. Were there ever such a thing as serial trailers?

Yes, there were. In the 50's when I saw some of the serials used here, the theatres would present the last chapter of the current serial they were showing (ie the Hurricane Express) and then show a trailer of the one coming next week (the adv. of Smilin' Jack).
